Hair today...gone tomorrow! 20th May 2015
Local Solva lady Catherin Griffiths has kindly donated over £500 to Shalom House after undergoing a head shave last year. This is how she celebrated her 50th birthday......so look out on the 60th!! The locks were shed at the Habour Inn and raised over £700 on the night and has been shared with another local charity. Inspiration came when she lost her father to cancer over 12 years ago at a time when she was six months pregnant, and she is eternally grateful for all the care and attention her father received at the time. She also lost her mum to cancer back in 1973 when Catherin was nine, but also many friends have succumbed to this terrible disease.
It is stories like this that inspire us and can change our outlook on life, but it is also nice to see someone take the bull by the horns and go all out to raise money to help those who would benefit from coming to Shalom House. As Catherin has told me she wishes her dad had the opportunity to come here....we will put the money to good use with the memory of your mum & dad in mind...Thank you Catherin....

New Fence 23rd Jan 2015
Some keen eyed passers-by will have noticed we had a new fence erected at the end of last year down the north boundary. We would like to say thank you to everyone involved in making this happen. First, you may remember there was a large hedge there and this had to come out. Pembrokeshire College 'Make a difference day' staff project team kindly took on this challenge and picked an awful day weather-wise to come and hack it out. We realised as soon as the hedge was down that it had taken up a lot of space as it grew. We then approached Richard Davies Fencing Company to erect a new fence to match the other boundary fence and he kindly quoted at a very competitive price. He was keen to support his local charity and so came along with his digger to rip out the hedge roots and put up the new posts. Hey presto we have a new fence up.
Staff, volunteers and Lloyds Bank St Davids staff have helped dig out the flower bed in front of the fence and we hope for something a bit more colourful in the border in 2015.
So can we take this opportunity to thank Pembrokeshire College Staff Development Team, Richard Davies Fencing Company and Lloyds Bank St Davids for helping us with this project which has been done with absolutely minimal cost. Brilliant!!!

Thames Walkers - Thank you 11th Nov 2014
Cathy, Claire and Lyn set out to raise £1500 between them for Shalom House. Pictured here are Cathy and Lyn with Allyson, the Shalom House Nurse Manager, (Claire unfortunately couldn't make the photo call) Having found out that it costs approximately £1500 for Shalom to open for a short respite weeks stay for 5 patients, they made that their aim to help keep them focused as they signed up to the Thames Towpath Challenge of a 100 km walk in September. In September they took on the challenge, knowing that their combined Just Giving Pages and other sponsorship monies collected from around the area and beyond, could possibly exceed that. And so...after the final monies have been counted, it is with great pleaure to announce that they raised £4,988.32 !! Yes, £10 short of £5,000 and THREE times their target suml! That's THREE Respite weeks covered not just one! Thank you to everyone who supported them and a HUGE thank you to these three champion walkers - Cathy, Claire and Lyn, who put in so much time and effort to support their local hospice. The Shalom Team

Helen's Marathon Report 9th April 2014
From Helen - "I did it!! Can't quite believe it ... Didn't really sleep the night before but the adrenaline hit when I started and did it with a friend so we kept each other going the whole way. The support was unbelievable, I had my name on top and Shalom House but not sure I have any photos that show it clearly. Was motoring up til 16/17 miles when my legs started to hurt then probably I hit the wall and cried every time I saw a mile marker with pure relief and pain. Last couple of miles were amazing and crossing the finish line was the best feeling ever :) So glad to have raised money for Shalom House and hope it helps a bit!!
Thank you SOOO much, Helen, the Just Giving page shows you have raised £555 for Shalom so far - hearing about our Outdoor Group from Jenny at a conference last year ...from little acorns big oak trees grow...unbelievable. Thank you from us all
